Story

Hey there! We're taking part in the phenomenal journey for charity that is Bristol RAG Jailbreak - 36 hours (starting 9am on March 14th) to get as far as we can from Bristol without spending any of our own money on travel. We're forsaking the luck-based methods favoured by those who rush to an airport in favour of using our own good looks and charms to persuade kind drivers to give us lifts as they head south-east into continental Europe (and perhaps further...?). All of this is taking place for RAG's favoured charity, the Quartet Community Foundation, who give back so much to the city that's taken care of us for almost three years (especially with graduation around the corner). As such, your donations would be *so* utterly awesome, and to sweeten the deal we're doing a Kickstarter-esque offer.

  • £1 - since you were nice enough to donate in the first place, you'll get a hug from the two of us (hug transferable to someone else).
  • £5 - French hug/your name will be written on our signpost after the event as a form of thank you credits.
  • £10 - we'll send you a (tacky) postcard from our final/most photogenic destination!
  • £11 - we'll send you a (non-tacky) postcard!
  • £15 - postcard plus we'll tell everyone just how wonderful you are.
  • £20 - postcard plus we'll buy you a drink the next time we see you.
  • £25+ - whoah, that's some serious-level donating there. We'll compose a poem in your honour praising your best traits as we travel, so you'll get an authentic praise poem in whatever form/metre you want (plus postcard).

If you'd like, you can track our progress with this neat little doohickey, and we'll be posting updates whenever possible.

THE TEAM

  • Raphael Fischer - economist, hitchhiking veteran, bit of a dork. Managed to reach Edinburgh and Cologne in the past, so I'm looking forward to ongoing adventures!
  • Jethro West - Third year Maths student, Scandiphile (lover of Scandinavia), music enthusiast and Pokémon Master. Having spent last summer sleeping in American drug baron’s apartments, feeding diseased cats and surviving 12-hour bus rides around USA’s East Coast, all to make travel cheap, I have no fears of the open road. With the breeze in our hair and AC/DC in our ears – purely for Jailbreak or Highway to Hell – we will descend upon the Continent and get as far as our spirits will take us!
  • Nigel Lawton - Nigel is a third year geologist which basically means he look at rocks all day every day. He is from Newcastle-under-Lyme which is in the Midlands not the North (not to be confused with the other Newcastle). Nigel likes everything to do with the outdoors, from walking to nature and everything in between, which is partly the reason he studies geology - for all the field trips. Nigel is easy going and always up for a joke or a trip down the pub, and if anyone wants to buy him a present, pizza is his favourite food.
