Story
Update: Following last year’s Hadrian’s Wall Challenge* this summer I am running all three “Great North” runs in aid of Bright Red.
I'm running the GN 10 K on 13 July, The GN 5 K on 6 September and the Great North Run (Half Marathon or 21 K) a day later on 7 September. I hope to run all three (36 K in total) in a combined time of 3 hours 16 minutes. Not Olympian perhaps? but 3 minutes inside the combined time of my individual PB’s for all three distances (3:19:18) and I’m doing the 5 K and the 21 K on consecutive days.
Again, the runs are in the memory of my mam - Valerie Haddon - who passed away in early 2013 - following a brave and dignified 16 month battle with a rare and aggressive form of lymphoma. It would be fantastic if we could add another £508 to break £5000.
* Hadrian's Wall Challenge 2013. From Saturday 29 September until Friday 4 October 2013 I ran, with Liam Kelly, supported by Jim McColgan, the 85 mile length (or 136 kilometre) of Hadrian's Wall from Bowness-on-Solway on the west coast of England to Wallsend on the east to raise money for BRIGHT RED. We completed the run in a total running time of 13 hours 51 minutes and raised £4,492 for Bright Red (+ £924 Gift Aid). The support and encouragement from family, friends and colleagues before, during and after was greatly appreciated and certainly kept us going during the run.
