Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit the Peaks 4 Premies Just Giving page.

The  neonatal unit at Watford General Hospital cares for vulnerable term and preterm newborns and our team works very closely with parents in providing the best possible care to these infants. We work with over 1000 families each year, looking after babies who are too small or sick to go home with their parents in the usual way.

Babies who are small are susceptible to infection and need the special care that the neonatal unit can deliver, and parents need the support of trained staff as they learn to support and bond with their newborn. These parents/families are living through the most traumatic events of their lifetime and we would like to make it as comfortable as possible for them by enabling them to access all the help and support that is available.

Your donation will enable us to buy equipment or offer critical training to our staff. At the moment we are seeking to raise funds for a range of equipment including respiratory support equipment, incubators, breathing alarms and reclining couches, - the latter to enable themother and baby to have critical “skin to skin” contact, providing incalculable payback in terms of supporting a bonding relationship. Benefits may include helping the baby to feel warm and secure, with a positive impact on their breathing and heart beat, and giving the mother confidence to breast feed which in turn supports the babies’ immune system.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
