On Saturday, April 25, a devastating earthquake struck in Nepal leaving more than 7,000 people dead and countless more homeless with little access to even basic resources such as shelter, food and clean water.

Nepal is thousands of miles away from the Isle of Man, but the Manx community has strong links to this Himalayan country through the fantastic work of the Pahar Trust. Since 1993, The Pahar Trust has built approximately 100 projects, the majority of which are schools. The Manx community has exclusively funded 30 of these buildings,these being predominantly schools. Through building these schools and other projects, the lives of 13,000 children in Nepal have been changed for the better.

Now Nepal needs our help more than ever before, as the Nepalese government struggles to cope in the aftermath of the earthquake, which has wiped out decades of development. In some remote villages, only our schools have been left standing, giving villagers at least somewhere to shelter as the monsoon season approaches.
We have therefore decided to launch “Pedal For Nepal”, a campaign where we urge you to get on your bike as we pedal-power our way towards raising as much money as we can. As a start, we will be cycling 40km around the north of the Isle of Man. 

Thanks to the dedicated local staff of the Pahar Trust in Nepal, and strong links with these villages, we can ensure your kind donations reach those that need it. For the foreseeable future all donations will go towards helping the most in need in remote villages in the Lamjung and Gorkha districts by providing emergency aid. In the long term, donations will assist communities rebuild their homes and ensure that all Pahar Trust schools are safe and secure.
