Story
On July 5th thieves smashed the window of Staffordshire Wildlife Trust's vehicle and stole the binoculars and telescopes worth over £1,200 that were being used for Peregrine Watch
The equipment was hidden under covers, but the thieves must have been watching staff load up.
Peregrine Watch takes place each year at the Roaches in the Staffordshire Moorlands and gives members of the public a chance to see the fastest bird on the planet in its natural cliff-side habitat.
The Watch is run by volunteers who are on site whatever the weather from March to July. Over 5,000 people have visited Peregrine Watch to look through the binoculars and telescopes which have now been stolen.
Jon Rowe, Staffordshire Wildlife Trust's Roaches Warden, said: “This is terrible news for the trust and its volunteers. Peregrine Watch is an important project that allows members of the public to view these rare birds of prey from a distance, which in turn helps us to record sightings and the progress of chicks.
It’s such a shame but we’re doing the best that we can. A few of our volunteers have kindly allowed us to use their equipment for the time being."
Donations will go towards buying more equipment for next years Peregrine Watch.
