Story
I'll be running the 2016 London Marathon to raise funds for REDRESS (www.redress.org). They are a fantastic organisation that works with torture survivors to restore their dignity and to make torturers accountable for their crimes.
I'm running 26.2miles / 42.195km and I aim to raise £1,500 to support their important work. That's £35 per kilometer / £57 per mile. Please help me reach this goal - I and the torture survivors I am running forwill be immensely grateful for it.
A bit more about REDRESS. Direct work with survivors of torture is at the heart of what they do. This includes helping torture victimsget reparations for their suffering as well as advocating for systematic changeto rid the world of torture. A lot of their work is at the grassroots level, with victims’ associations and human rights groups for example, but they also work with lawyers' associations and even government ministries responsible for protecting, assisting and responding to torture and related crimes. Through this they help build capacity, provide advice and direct assistance to local groups to enhance their interventions with survivors, and strengthen their partners' advocacy work on legal or institutional reforms and the overall goal of preventing torture.
