Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
For those of you unsure the Thyroid is a gland in your neck that creates hormones that are secreted in to your blood, without which the cells in your body are unable to function efficiently. It has many effects on both the body and the brain. Thyroid disease can also cause weight gain, fatigue, anxiety and depression. Thyroid disorders affect one in twenty people in the UK, most of which are incurable, yet many people and even doctors find it difficult to understand the disease.
My dad suffered from an underactive Thyroid for a majority of his life and often struggled with the physical and mental implications of the condition. His thyroid caused him to retire early from work because he was often too ill to carry out his day to day activities and also had an impact on his mental health which was difficult for his family to deal with. He became increasingly frustrated that many medical professionals didn't understand the Thyroid as much as they could with further investigation. This is because there is still a great deal of research to be done about the Thyroid, its causes and implications which is one of the reasons we have selected the British Thyroid Foundation in memory of my dad. It's an extremely important cause for both him and my family, many of who have also been affected by the disease.
So please dig deep and donate now, in memory of my dad, Garry Turner.
Thank you xxxxx
