Story
Hi All.
As you probably know, we've been working in Kiwoko Hospital in rural Uganda for the last 6 months and over that time it truly has become our home. We've been made to feel incredibly welcome here and have been privileged to see (and become a small part of) the amazing work which is done here.
Kiwoko is a charitable hospital which was set up about 20 years ago by an Irish missionary and, from humble beginnings as a clinic under a tree, has grown into a fully fledged hospital which is able to provide vital healthcare services for the local population. Kiwoko is not a wealthy area - most people are subsistence farmers - and so patient fees are heavily subsidised and all development work is funded by donations - which is where we would like to help!
In our time here, Jill has been working on the Paediatric and Neonatal intensive care wards and Rich has been doing somewhat less exciting things with the finance and management teams. It was therefore a tricky decision as to whether we should try and fundraise to support Jill's work or Rich's... but in the end the new photocopier lost out and so we're hoping to raise around £1000 to fund the purchase of an infusion pump to allow medicines and fluids to be given accurately to small children and a cardiac monitor to measure heart rate and oxygen levels. Both of these will really help to improve the care which the paediatric ward is able to provide.
Thank you so much for your generosity and support - it means, quite literally, everything to the people here in Kiwoko and is just a small way in which we are able to say thankyou for everything they've done for us.
