We raise awareness of AIDS through cricket to strengthen communities and fight disease

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I have volunteered with Cricket without Boundaries to spend two weeks in Botswana in the Spring using cricket coaching as a way of increasing HIV and Aids awareness which is CWBs raison d'etre

Why I am doing this is a good question? I have played sport since a very young age and have experienced a great deal of enjoyment through playing sport.  I have made some of my best friends through playing sport.

I would love to be able to help share some of the enjoyment I have experienced with those less fortunate than myself through the coaching of cricket.  Buying a flat with a balcony overlooking a County Cricket Ground probably counts as been mildly obsessed with cricket and this volunteering opportunity will give me the chance to use my love of cricket for a worthwhile mission.

I have always wanted to visit Africa and the opportunity to volunteer and see Africa away from the tourist trail and meet the people of Africa in their day to day lives is something I am really excited about.

All the money raised goes to the charity and I will be paying for my own flights and costs.  In order to go on this trip,  I need to raise £1000 and am aiming for £1500 for CWB,   I will be doing this through several events and activities.

CWB has three main goals:

  • To spread cricket through coaching children and teaching adults how to coach; and
  • To link the sport to HIV/AIDS awareness and incorporate these messages into coaching sessions.
  • To bring together and empower local communities through cricket.

You can read more about CWB and all the great work they do on their website http://www.cricketwithoutboundaries.com/about/our-mission

I will update you all on my fundraising progress

About the charity

Cricket Without Boundaries is dedicated to helping, educating and developing local communities around the world through the spread and growth of cricket. Crucially, CWB also uses cricket as a tool in the fight against AIDS. CWB’s training sessions have at their heart discussion about the disease in terms of prevention, treatment and equality of treatment for those with and without the disease.
