CHRISTMAS APPEALS - Each year we do a Christmas Appeal. Why so often and why at that time of year when everyone has enough to spend on already? This yearly appeal is absolutely essential to the running costs each year of the Branch's animal welfare work. We do it once a year because it seems to be just the right amount of time in which to remind people that we are still here and working tirelessly year-round! At Christmas time, it is easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of presents and decorations... however the work of Animal Welfare must carry on. In fact, our costs can rise at Christmas time, as was seen in December 2010 when over 50 animals were brought into our care in the 3 weeks running up to Christmas... from a snake to chickens, to the dog taken in on Christmas Eve!
2011 - "Could you ignore this puppy's cries for help?"
2010 - "I'm dreaming of a bright Christmas" - RAISED £10,045.92
2009 - "Moving on to pastures new..." - RAISED £5,485
2008 - "The 12 days of an RSPCA Christmas" - RAISED £4,790
SHELLY - In 2010, we appealed for financial help for Shelly, a crossbreed puppy who was taken away from someone who had given her a very bad start to life. She had cigarette burns in several places and had at some point had a broken leg which had not been fixed. Consequently, specialist surgery was required to fix the leg. We raised £576 towards the operation.
BOBBY - In June 2009, we had to plea for financial help when we took Bobby into our care. He was a horse that had recieved no care, attention or human affection. It took thousands of pounds of vet care and specialist equipment and food to nurse Bobby back to full health. At that point, hours and hours of patience took over to help him win back his trust in humans. The appeal for Bobby in newspapers raised over £1500, which helped considerably though didn't fully cover the costs incurred.
BANJO - In 2008, Banjo came to us as a puppy that had already seen the bad side of humans. He required a full leg cast to heal his broken leg. Though we don't know how his broken leg and other injuries happened, it was apparent that they did not happen by accident. We made an appeal to help towards the cost of his care and everyone pitched in. Banjo made a full recovery and was later rehomed. He is now happy and healthy and full of life with his new family who love him VERY much.
