Only a week to go!
2013
We're back!! Raising money for Sea Shepherd so they can continue to defend the oceans.
Last year the competitors told us they thought it was the toughest ultra in UK, some even thought the world. We listened to the feedback and made changes...
This year we've made the route longer, more ups, more downs, just down right tough.
It's going to be awesome!!
June 16th Update...
So after months of very careful planning nothing could prepare us for the severe weather, and as the route crossed a river that had burst its banks and become impassable we simply had to cancel the race... very very sad... particularly as participants had made such a galant effort in getting as far as they had. The great news is that we have rescheduled for Aug 4th!!!
June 13th Update... only 3 days to go!!!!
We smashed our target thanks to everybody's amazing help and one massive and wonderful donation. Now we're going for gold... let's raise £3.5k for Sea Shepherd...
Thank you everyone, keep sharing, wales for whales!! :-)
The V3Kers xx
May 3rd Update.... only 43 days to go!!!
With 20 confirmed runners in our team we're looking forward to the world's first vegan ultra marathon!!!
We have a very kind sponsor who has offerd to donate £2,000 to Sea Shepherd if we reach our £1,000 target. That's the cost of saving one whale.
PLEASE HELP US SAVE A WHALE :-)
March 14th update... only 93 days to go!!! for more up to date info keep in touch via www.facebook.com/pages/Vegan-Welsh-3000s or read about us on our website www.vegan-welsh-3000s.co.uk
For the third year in a row a band of super fit vegans will be heading out to the wilds of Wales to tackle the much feared Welsh 3,000s... only this time we’re running it!!!
What are the Welsh 3,000s? Its all the hills of Wales over 3,000 foot... or in other words, 30 miles and 14,921 feet of ascent... or 48km with over 4000m of ascent or in other words a very long way!!
Starting at Pen y Pas as the sun rises we will first scale the Crib Goch ridge before going on to climb Crib y Ddysgl, Snowdon then down to Nant Peris for a breather before we head up the tortuous Elidir Fawr, Y Garn, Glyder Fawr, Glyder Fach then down the scree and up Tryfan down to Ogwen Valley and our last breather then up the wonderful Pen yr Ole Wen, Carnedd Dafydd, Carnedd Llewelyn, Yr Elen, Foel Grach, Garnedd Uchaf and Foel-fras. Once we reach the final peak of Foel Fras we will still have over four miles to run...
We are aiming to run in pairs and all complete in under 12 hours
This year we’re raising money for Sea Shepherd, the most important marine conservation charity...
We are very grateful to be sponsored by Salomon, each of us will be wearing their Speedcross3 shoes, excellent vegan footwear designed by the World’s leading fell running company.
“Based on estimates for the current Antarctic Whaling Season, I estimate that it has cost £3,000 to save each whale over our campaigns in the Southern Ocean.” Sea Shepherd spokesperson
Please support us raising money for Sea Shepherd :-)
Sea Shepherd
Established in 1977, Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (SSCS) is an international non-profit, marine wildlife conservation organization. Our mission is to end the destruction of habitat and slaughter of wildlife in the world's oceans in order to conserve and protect ecosystems and species.
Sea Shepherd uses innovative direct-action tactics to investigate, document, and take action when necessary to expose and confront illegal activities on the high seas. By safeguarding the biodiversity of our delicately-balanced ocean ecosystems, Sea Shepherd works to ensure their survival for future generations.
Their work is vital to help maintain our oceans, we may not be able to help on board their ships but we can help by donating money.
