We send volunteers overseas to fight poverty

Story

In June 2015 I worked with Shell as a corporate volunteer for VSO in Lindi, Tanzania. I worked on a project aimed at raising the profile of Small and Medium sized Enterprises working there. I believe the project will make a positive contribution to the lives of people living in Lindi, the town in which I was based.

In late May this year, I will return to Lindi, with my friend Richard Pitt to organise a 5k and 1k race on the beach. We will cover all our own expenses but we're reaching out to you to ask for donations to be used for prizes. These will include t-shirts and medals for participants, trophies, perhaps shoes for selected prizes and small gifts for the children. More details can be found at our website: www.runlindi.org.

All money donated via this site will be sent to VSO and they in turn will provide us with all funds raised to purchase the prizes. Should we raise more money than is needed for this year's event, excess funds will be retained by VSO and rolled-over to next year's event. We hope that in time this will become an event organised by locals, funded by locals for locals.

Lindi is a small town in a very underdeveloped area of Tanzania.  We believe a key to the success of the event will be the giving of prizes to the participants. We think they would really appreciate any ‘small prize’.

Thanks for your help.

Regards,

Richard & Brian
