Story
Since the unexpected loss of my Mum at the start of June, so many people have got in touch to express their sadness at her death. Every single one of them has said the same thing: that she was one of the kindest people they'd known.
The more I think about her, the more I realise how true this was. She took people under her wing, and would help in any way she could without a thought for herself. She was involved in so many charities and voluntary causes - from music lessons for kids, local care charities, to animal sanctuaries. She was still driving 'her Old Ladies' to the Age UK lunch club well in to her seventies.
Over the last few years her generosity has been more than repaid by the wonderful people at Age UK Canterbury. They are a lifeline for the elderly community in Canterbury, and the work of the Collins Unit in supporting people living with Dementia and those who care for them has been a lifeline for my family. My Mum's final years would have been much poorer without their help, and they continue to enrich my Dad's life with companionship, laughter and song.
My Dad, Roy Plowright, and I would be grateful for any donation in her memory, however small, to help them with their work, and to say thank you for their kindness.
Mum would have been terribly embarrassed and flustered, of course, but secretly very grateful. There's no finer way to remember her.
