Thanks for taking the time to visit #teamgeorge’s marathon JustGiving page. We’ve set it up to help raise some money by running the London Marathon in support of the Matt Hampson Foundation and my 18 year old son, George Robinson. George sustained a spinal cord injury on the 27th of July 2015 whilst playing rugby on the third game of his school tour to Cape Town, South Africa.
Running a marathon seemed the least I could do as George’s Dad and has become personally symbolic to me as I’m grateful to be independently mobile, able to run, and it also reminds me of the importance of pushing the boundaries. As a family we are adapting and learning about spinal injuries and disability, everyday George is developing new strategies to be able to live a full life. We are determined that we use this life changing injury to be a force for good.
Matt Hampson and his team have been hugely supportive in this initial adaptive phase of George's injury. I want to highlight the incredible work they do with injured individuals and how they demonstrate that there really is a full life beyond a spinal injury. I love Matt’s strapline to “get busy living”, and that’s exactly what I intend to do by putting on my running shoes, although I’ve realised that there are easier and more restful ways of getting busy other than a 26 mile run!
