Story

If we are to believe the stats then I supposedly think of sex every 7 seconds. That is a whopping 12,343 times a day or 2,271,085 times in a 6 month period. So - why is this important? It is important because I have decided to give up sex for 6 months/184 days/2,271,085 sexual thoughts/15,897,000 seconds – in the hopes to raise money for Rape Crisis (England and Wales).

I understand that for some people this may seem to be trivial – but I assure you this is going to be quite the challenge! Sex is different for everybody. Some people enjoy the challenge of covering their bedpost with notches and some people enjoy the intimacy of having one sexual partner. Living in a time of 50 Shades, Ann Summers, sex parties, and provocative advertising – ‘sex’ is all around us. And the truth is, no matter what you’re into or who you do it with (within the law!) - Sex is great! There is, however, ONE thing that all of our sex should have in common:

It should be consensual.

Imagine being deprived of the joy of sex, being afraid of it, rejecting physical contact even from those that love you. Those who are the victims of rape have had their dignity and vitality snatched from them. They have been made to hate something that should be one of life’s greatest pleasures – the touch of another. I am forcing myself to give up sex to raise money for those who were forced to do the opposite. Rape is life-changing and in a world where everybody is talking about and enjoying sex – it can be impossible for victims to get away from or recover from. Rape Crisis England & Wales is a feminist organisation that exists to promote the needs of women and girls who have experienced sexual violence, to improve services to them and to work towards the elimination of sexual violence. Rape Crisis offer support to thousands of Women and Young Females who have been victims of rape, and like all charities – they need our funding! Donations of any size are welcomed and with your help, hopefully I can reach my goal and I will be able to look back on these 6 months with pride and satisfaction!

If people could share this page and my challenge on social networking sites, I would really appreciate it (even if you are unable to donate)!
