Story

Updated on Jul 29th 2012 at 6:46 PM from the JustGiving API

On 28/7 we climbed Snowdon! It was the hardest thing we have ever done and we have no intention of repeating it!! Thanks to everyone that has supported us and a special thank you to our wonderful husbands who accompanied us and kept us going with a helping hand, lots of encouragement, cuddles and wiped away our tears when it all got too much! WE DID IT!!!

Hi

Thanks for visiting our justgiving page.

Our boys have been through so much in their lives so far and have been so brave throughout.  We decided we wanted to give some back to the charities that have supported us and decided we should tackle Mount Snowdon.  Snowdon is the highest mountain in England and Wales at 3560 feet.

On the 7th July, we will reach the summit of Snowdon, we are not the fittest of women and it is going to be a really tough challenge for us to reach that summit – but ......we WILL do it .......for our little men.

Money raised will be split between Autism West Midlands and The Arthrogryposis Group.

Here is a little more about us and our boys:-

Caroline's story.

Christopher turned 7 on 9th January, and although Autism was suspected from about the age of 4, it was not until July 2011 that he was formally diagnosed, with particular emphasis on the Social and Sensory area of the Spectrum Disorder.  We have found that awareness of Autism is very limited as it can be a hidden disability, because many people with autism are no different in appearance from anyone else.  Christopher attends mainstream school who are very supportive and he has a one-to-one Support teacher to assist in school life as he can become distressed, anxious, and inconsolable at times, which is heartbreaking.  Please take some time to read this page, http://www.autismwestmidlands.org.uk/content/614303/understanding_autism/.

Kath's Story

Aaron was born on 19-05-2008 with a rare condition called Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita.  This caused him to have stiff joints, lack of muscle development, clenched hands and clubbed feet. We were told he probably would not walk or have functional use of his hands.  After 16 weeks of serial castings, 2 surgeries and 10 weeks in a boots and bar to correct his clubbed feet, Aaron began walking at around 18 months.  He has function in his hands and manages well.  We refer to his "disability" as a "diff-ability" as he can do most things but he just does them differently.  His treatment is ongoing and he still requires physio and splints for his hands, physio on his legs and he continues to wear his boots and bar at night.  But throughout all this he still continues to be a cheerful, happy little man.  He is our little star.  To learn more about Arthrogryposis please go to www.tagonline.org.uk and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WoroBmYi5b4

Please support us with our challenge by sponsoring us, any donation however small will be greatly appreciated.  Look out for updates on our training, we will update the page as we progress!!

Thank you so much

Caroline and Kath

At The Arthrogryposis Group we are able to offer local level support to people living with Arthrogryposis Muliplex Congenita (AMC) or one of the 200 related conditions. We provide regular information and updates on care and treatment, and through our events we give excellent opportunities to meet others with arthrogryposis, their families and anyone involved in their care.
