Story
Thanks for visiting my JustGiving Page, I’m fundraising to support the amazing work that B.I.R.D Charity do.
In January 2015 concerns was raised about my 2 year old son's hearing. We immediately got an appointment and when he was tested his ears was absolutely fine. This raised questions with his health visitor and she mentioned the word 'Autism'. Weeks later and Lenni's 'behavior' was spiraling out of control, he wasn't making any eye contact, biting and smacking everyone around him and he was growing more and more distant - in a world of his own / Lenni land!
So far we have seen a pediatrician, early years adviser, occupational therapist, speach and language therapists and a few independent specialists - Lenni is under diagnosis for autism.
We was recommended to see BIRD (Brain injury rehabilitation & development) and after a few appointments this charity discovered that they could help Lenni. Through a series of exercises they can help to unlock the world that Lenni lives in and rehabilitate his brain to ensure he can make the best of his life and not be held back by his Autism. We are currently learning the exercises they recommend and I hope that with their help, and the support of family and friends we can give Lenni the best possible start in life. They say early intervention is the best.
Lenni is a happy, loving and energetic little boy who will thrive in life no matter what but we need to make sure we are doing everything we can NOW to allow Lenni to reach his true potential.
BIRD is an amazing charity and rely solely on donations and national lottery funding. It would be great if you could donate and share my page so I can raise as much as possible to enable BIRD to provide treatment for children & adults.
Thank you.
Update 05/01/2016: Lenni was diagnosed with ASD - Autism Spectrum Disorder. He also has sensory processing difficulties. Our focus this year to to keep up the exercises with BIRD as he is coming on leaps and bounds with their help. We are going to make sure he has an amazing EHCP which will help to get him in to a great school that we have been looking at.
Update 22/08/2016: After tears, tantrums and lots of pleading we have finally had Lenni's EHCP signed off! He can not start at the school we would like yet as it dosent have a nursery. However for the next year we have managed to secure some funding that will enable us to send in specialists to work intensely with Lenni and his nursery, wich in turn should prepare him for his scool years.
