The Stan Bowley Trust a Lichfield based charity, was founded in 2008, in response to Alan "Stan" Bowley, who received CyberKnife - laser cancer treatment for a tumour, which helped prolong his life.
This type of treatment is able to give high doses of radiation with pin point accuracy, enabling fewer hospital visits and without the side effects (sickness and hair loss) that other cancer treatments have. Recovery periods are shorter and quality of life during and after treatment is also improved.
Unfortunately this treatment is not yet available on the NHS and The Stan Bowley Trust have previously raised funds which have assisted with purchasing a CyberKnife, the only one outside London, which is at the QE in Birmingham.
In October 2015 I will be trekking with the charity in Peru, I will be self funding the trip, but have pledged to raise £2,000, which will be used to fund clinical trials for laser treatment to ensure that in the future this treatment can be mainstreamed and everyone is able to benefit.
Many thanks for your donation and helping me to meet my target. Sarah.
