Story
The 12 of us are all from around the Tadworth area in Surrey and some of us are runners but for the non-runners amongst our group this will be a quite a challenge, however we are all inspired by the children at The Children's Trust.
Most of us have met Alfie Russell - a lovely young man who now speaks at many Children's Trust events. In 1999, aged 10, Alfie was knocked off his bike and suffered a severe head injury and was rushed to Guy’s Hospital. Once in hospital the doctors prepared the family for the worst - if Alfie pulled through he would be unlikely to walk or talk, he could be blind and deaf.
This was a devastating blow to the Russell family. In a matter of a few seconds, their sports mad son, who ran for his school and even trained with the Spurs ‘under 9’s’ team no longer had a future. Amazingly, after 11½ weeks in the intensive care unit, the immediate crisis was over and Alfie was transferred to The Children’s Trust.
It took almost 3 years for Alfie to recover and although there may be times when he will need some sort of support Alfie is back to being the fun loving and active person he was before his accident. Alfie ran the London Marathon in 2008, trekked Vietnam in 2010 and climbed Kilimanjaro in 2011 all in aid of The Children's Trust.
Alfie is now a Disability Sports Coach and an example of the thousands of young people helped by The Children's Trust. Every penny donated will make a difference. With your help we can help more children like Alfie.
So please dig deep and donate now. Thank you so much for all your support.
