Story
On the 10th of June 2012, while we were on holiday our second child, a little boy was born 13 weeks prematurely at Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro.
Sadly he died later that day despite the best efforts of the hospital staff.
We arrived in the middle of the night by ambulance, our young daughter with us, not knowing where we were or what to expect. We were miles from home and our family but after we were given the news about our son, we were able to come to terms with our shock and grief in our own private room, away from the delivery suite.
The room had been recently renovated with the help of funds raised by Ella’s Memory to help bereaved parents like us in the immediate aftermath of giving birth by creating a comfortable place to recover and compile memories of their babies.
In the days after, we decided that we would raise money for Ella’s Memory by cycling back to Cornwall from Hackney on the anniversary of his birth. In the years since we’ve been busy raising our young family but now they're older, the time is right to brave the saddle sore and make a pilgrimage of remembrance in aid of a very good cause.
While we’re both keen cyclists we have never attempted anything like this before, least of all on the same bike, so wish us luck and please donate so that other parents affected will also be able to benefit from the work Ella’s Memory does with Royal Cornwall Hospital.
