Story

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page for RMHC, in loving memory of Alice Mary Rowlands.

Our beloved daughter Alice was born on 25 September 2007.  She had a very rare and serious liver disease called Neonatal Haemochromatosis.  Alice’s only chance of survival was to have a liver transplant, so she was urgently transferred to King’s College Hospital in London on her fifth day of life.  During this time RMHC provided us with free accommodation near to the hospital so that we could be close to her.  Sadly Alice passed away on 10 October, just 15 days old.

Thanks to RMHC we were able to enjoy the time we spent with Alice, which was so very precious, and something no amount of money could ever buy.  We are eternally grateful.

ARMS Gala Dinners 2008-2010

The Alice Rowlands Memorial Society (ARMS), was founded in February 2008 to raise money for charities inAlice’s Memory.  The ARMS Gala Evenings have raised an amazing £33,000 in total.  This has been added to the ‘Amount Raised Offline’ below.  For a full account of the evenings, visit http://alicerowlands.org/galaevening.aspx

Other fundraising events

Paul Macro did a tandem skydive at Old Buckenham Airfield on 12 July 2008.  This was a prize he won in a competition, and he decided it would be a brilliant way to raise money.  Paul said the skydiving experience was awesome.  We're very glad Paul landed safely and thank him for the money he has raised, which currently stands at over £150, with more to come.

On 25 June, Dave Farrant set off on a mammoth bike ride from Bristol to Toulouse in France.  The full journey was from Montpelier, Bristol to Montpellier, France, although Dave had to finish in Toulouse due to work commitments.  Even so, Dave covered a total distance of 652 miles by pedal power alone over a period of 10 days, which is a truly amazing feat and raised £500 for the charity.

Special Thanks...

...to the staff, children and their families at Fairview Nursery for collectively donating £78.60 at the children's Christmas Concert.

...to S1, Miranda's friends on the UEA Primary PGCE course who collectively donated £112.20 as a thank you to Miranda for organising their Christmas Party.

...to Evie who raised £200 for ARMS / RMHC.  Evie had a big party for her 13th birthday and invited her friends to make a donation to the charity instead of buying her presents.  We're touched by Evie's lovely idea.  Special thanks to her and all her party guests.

City of Norwich School Reunion Raffle
Our first ever raffle was drawn on Saturday 3rd May at the CNS Class of '89/'91 reunion.  It was a huge success, raising an astounding £1,404 for RMHC!  The cash has been added to our 'offline total' below.  Thank you to everyone who bought tickets and congratulations to the lucky winners.

Denton Charity Lunch – Sunday 6 April 2008
We would like to thank the people ofDenton who so generously supported the charity lunch at Denton Village Hall on Sunday 6th April.  A fabulous total of £640.00 was raised for RMHC at the event, which has been included in the ‘Amount Raised Offline’ below.

Denton is a small village near Bungay, close to the border between Norfolk and Suffolk.  Several of Paul’s colleagues, past and present, live in the village and decided to organise the charity lunch after hearing our story.

The meal was delicious, which is no mean feat when you consider that the chefs were catering for over 70 people!  There was a wonderful community spirit, we were warmly welcomed by everyone and made to feel like honorary ‘Dentonites’ for the day.

Thank you to everyone who worked hard to make the lunch such a big success.
