Our story
We are a group of students and staff from the University of Sussex who are running the Brighton Marathon on 15 April 2012 to raise funds for the Bhopal Medical Appeal. Our target is £10,000.
The Bhopal Medical Appeal supports two free clinics in Bhopal, India, for survivors of the Union Carbide gas disaster of December 1984 and for children still suffering from the effects of groundwater poisoning in the area.
One of them has been described by Dr John Hurst, (Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant, UCL Medical School and Royal Free Hospital):
"As an example of an holistic, environmentally-sound, community-focused and patient-centred approach to healthcare, the Sambhavna Clinic is way ahead of anything I have ever visited or worked in, anywhere in the world."

We have just passed the £3000 mark in our fundraising. Thank you to everyone who has sponsored us!

Meanwhile here are some things that can be done with the money we are raising:
£10 pays for a child to have one month of speech therapy
£30 provides a month’s physiotherapy for four children
£50 provides special education to seven children for a month
£100 runs a minibus for a month, bringing ten children to the Chingari clinic
£250 buys a month’s supply of inhalers for people with asthma
£500 helps train an entire community in how to prevent TB
£1200 would provide us with two sorely-needed computers
£6000 pays a doctor’s salary for a year
£16000 runs the Sambhavna clinic for one month
