Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Oliver was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia Philadelphia Positive, in July 2013 age 11, and almost 2 years later just before reaching, end of treatment, he relapsed, leukemic
cells were found in his spinal fluid. A search for a donor began immediately as his sister unfortunately wasn’t a match for Oliver. In September 2015 he received a stem cell transplant from an unrelated donor in Germany and so far things are going well.
When Oliver is very poorly he is admitted to the Sheffield Children’s Cancer ward but otherwise is treated weekly in the Oncology clinic. The staff/nurses/doctors/volunteers are all great and do everything they can to make things comfortable and interesting but the clinic is too small for the number of patients being treated, especially when there’s patients also needing to be isolated.
A new Day Care Centre/Oncology Clinic is definitely required but a small matter of funds stands in the way. The plans for the new clinic are purpose built so it has the right facilities. It has 5 times the treatment space of our current clinic, a large family room for inpatients and day care patients, and space for PACT staff, social workers and clinicians. For more information go to http://pactfriends.co.uk/day-care-cancer-centre-appeal-sheffield/
So please if you can help this cause then future patients would benefit massively.
Hopefully Oliver won’t benefit from the new build but would be happy in the knowledge that he’d returned to living a full and active life again, back at school studying for his GCSE’s, and onwards to University, happy in the knowledge that we'd all made a difference to peoples lives !
My family and I plan to raise as much money between now and next summer to try and meet Pacts target/deadline for the new clinic of £670,000 by summer 2017. The first event will be for Oliver to help shave off my hair (only fair as I’ve shaved Oliver’s off before it fell out, a few times now) ! Other events will follow eg Race Nights.
You never know maybe Louis Tomlinson (former 1D) will make a donation or highlight the Pact cause, from four Doncaster Rovers
supporters to another.
Thank you from Oliver, Katie, Mike and Teresa
