Story
Ben and I are walking
from Chelsea FC’s Stamford Bridge stadium in London to the County Ground in
Swindon, via the Kassam stadium, to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society and
the Oxford United Community Trust.
There is a twofold
reason for taking on this challenge, firstly to raise money for the Alzheimer’s
society which is a charity close to our hearts. Both of Ben’s Nan’s suffered
with Alzheimer’s, and working in the job that I do I encounter patients and
families on a daily basis who try to cope with the damaging effects of the
disease. Secondly, being loyal OUFC supporters (as you know) and following the
negative reaction to the EFL trophy (you may not know), choosing a start and
finish location of two of the teams in our group aims to spur a positive
reaction to the event and thus raise money for a valuable cause.
We plan to leave
for Chelsea following the Swindon home game and start the walk on the 11th of
September. The walk will take us 6 days, covering a distance of almost a
marathon every day. This is something neither of us has done before and with
only about 6 weeks until the event we aren’t entirely sure what we have let
ourselves in for!
So please feel free to have a look at our JustGiving pages and donate as
much as you can to one or both of these very valuable charities!
Many thanks
