Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Last year I met a remarkable young man on a charity bike ride. We were taking part in the Walking with Wounded/Ride of the Lions ride from the site of the Battle of Waterloo in Belgium back to London. Michael Swain MBE had been severely injured in Afghanistan. Aged 20, he stepped on an Improvised Explosive Device resulting him losing both legs above the knee. As I rode alongside him I heard how busy, very busy, he was rebuilding his life and learned from him all about Haig Housing Trust and the help they gave him in finding a property that would suit his needs. I am proud and honoured to call Michael a friend. He is a very inspiring character. Since then I have become more involved with the charity and i am running on behalf of their Coming Home campaign, which is specifically focussed on providing adapted housing for our wounded heroes. Last year the charity was given great exposure due to the BBC DIY SOS programme which was central to transforming a street of derelict houses in Manchester into purpose made homes for wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women.
