Story

Following last years exploits of ‘Marathon Fran’, an adventure that raised over £3,000 for charity via fundraising events, shin splints, blisters & the occasional lost toe nail (too much detail?!) here we are again, & THIS TIME WE’RE DOING LONDON!!!

To the dismay of a concerned mother, a promise to stop running marathons was quickly broken & we’re back, cap in hand, asking you for anything you can spare for what is an extremely worthy cause close to both of our hearts.

Picked up along the way boyfriend/ newly acquired running partner Tim has decided to upgrade his involvement from drinking on the sidelines at last years race to being a fully fledged participant in this years! Spurred on by a healthy dose of inter-relationship rivalry Tim has been training hard throughout the winter to complete what will be his first full marathon having started running last year.

The charity in question is again, Vasculitis UK - raising money to help find a cure and support those with Wegeners disease and other such rare diseases.

Alexandra, Francesca’s sister, was diagnosed with Wegeners disease when she was 19, nearly 6 years ago now. Wegeners is a rare auto-immune disease which causes inflammation and damage to the blood vessels.  This can result in permanent damage to many organs such as eyes, ears, kidneys and respiratory system as well as other major organs.  There is no cure but it can usually be controlled using modern drug therapy.   If untreated it is fatal.

Alexandra was in remission for 2 years but sadly had a relapse, meaning the disease is again active in her body.  Mainly affecting her in the form of severe headaches, as well as permanent damage to her eyes, nose and sinuses, the disease causes her discomfort on a daily basis. Alexandra regularly receives treatment at the wonderful Addenbrooks hospital under the watchful eye of Dr. Jayne.

Anything you can give will be truly appreciated & go a long way towards helping a charity that relies solely on individual donations. YOUR DONATION REALLY DOES COUNT!
