We inspire vulnerable young people to make positive changes in their lives

Story

To follow my challenge please visit: www.tohellandback.co.uk

The Brathay Trust, a charity based in Cumbria which supports some of the UK’s most disadvantaged and vulnerable young children.

Many challenges are being faced by children and young adults in their day to day lives, they may be vulnerable, disengaged, or just plain “hard to reach”, and they may have dropped through the support network provided by parents, schools, family and social services. They may have no family to speak of, they may be dabbling in drugs and alcohol, they may have been sexually exploited, and they may be involved in criminal activity and gangs and even dropped out of school or further education.

They need help to enable them to change course, they need help to enable them to develop confidence and motivation, to develop the skills needed to unlock their potential and make positive changes in their lives. They need help to re-enter education or training, to foster relationships with their family, help to avoid and move away from criminal activity.

Many young people experiencing these levels of disadvantage need support to make positive changes. They need help to develop confidence, motivation and the skills needed to reach their potential.

The Furness ‘Get Real’ programme helps young people who are disillusioned with opportunities in their community and are struggling to move forwards. Sessions in the community and residentials at Brathay Hall provide the inspiration to secure employment or to return to education or training.

Please help me to help our local young people. Thank you

The Challenge

On the 2nd May 2016 I will start cycling from Land’s End to John O’ Groats and then back to Brathay Hall on the northern shores of Lake Windermere. I have allowed myself 10 days for this section of the challenge, that’s going to equate to an average of over 130 miles a day, every day, for 10 days.

Once I make it back to Brathay I will be preparing myself to swim the length of the lake, an estimated distance of 10ish miles in one day.

The very next day I will be embarking on the Brathay 10 in 10, a marathon every day for 10 consecutive days, on the same undulating route around Lake Windermere, hard enough on its own without having cycled and swam for 11 days beforehand, just off the scale if you have.
