On the 10 of June 2016 Jonny Dry will be making his second attempt at running the epic 125km (77miles) from the Prince of Wales Pier in Falmouth to the iconic Land’s End. Jonny is completing this ultra marathon in aid of Transplant Links Community (TLC), a small charity which provides training of surgeons and doctors in developing countries and saves the lives of people suffering with kidney failure.
Jonny is an experienced long distance, cross country runner, with over ten years of competitive running experience, but even this mammoth task will be a huge challenge for him. Aiming to cover three times the distance of the London marathon, and climb over 2000m along the South-West Coastal Path.
“We are blown away by the task Jonny is going to take in aid of TLC. We are a very small charity and the money Jonny raises through this event will make a huge difference; it mean that we will be able to send more doctors and surgeons to developing countries to pass on life-saving surgical skills. Thank you and good luck Jonny - we will be there at the finish line cheering you on!” - Dr Jennie Jewitt-Harris, CEO of TLC
Last year Jonny attempted to complete the course in under 15 hours, but the conditions on the day played a bigger part than anticipated. With head winds of 25-30mph and rain contributing to the slippery coastal path conditions, Jonny made a gallant attempt, but made the difficult call to stop at 63 miles after nearly 20 hours of running.
“Calling time on the run was one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make. There is an inevitable feeling of guilt that the support that everyone has given me couldn't have been paid off in full. It goes without saying that I will be back in the summer to have another attempt and smash this into the middle of somewhere very far away!” - Jonny Dry - January 2015
