About Townships Trust
We help children in communities with very little in life. Most of us live privileged lives where we take everyday conveniences for granted. In communities with poor sanitation, sporadic water supply and virtually no future or education, we attempt to inject some help through the kind contributions of our donors.
Townships Trust is a new charity set up to foster the development of schools and créches in the poorest township areas of Cape Town, South Africa.
Its main aim is to provide deprived children, aged 2-7, with a safe place to begin their education and to make sure they get at least one nutritious meal a day.
The thinking behind the charity came from Ed Orton, the founder of Thames Valley Summer Schools. On his visits to South Africa, Ed had been moved by the sight of countless township children wandering the streets alone. Enlisting the help of Tom Acton, a South African now living in London, Ed set out to tackle this distressing problem and formed Townships Trust in 2013.
