Story
In January I started a series of trail runs that get gradually tougher as the year progresses, culminating in an 86 miler in August.
Prior to that, I'd only run five organised events, with just one of those a marathon.
This was initially going to be a personal challenge, I didn't want to put myself under pressure by raising money for charity, when I wasn't sure I'd get half way through the series, let alone complete it.
The terrible earthquake in Nepal two weeks ago changed my mind. I spent five weeks in the country two years ago and was shocked by the deprivation, poverty and hardship I witnessed, both in the cities and the mountains. Life for children is especially difficult
Even before the earthquake......
Out of 100 children:
- 42 lived in absolute poverty
- 56 suffered from malnutrition
- 51 completed primary school
- 3 died of diarrhoea
Please donate, even if you have already responded to the appeals. Your money really will make a difference.
Child Action Nepal is a very small UK based charity with minimal overheads. You can be sure that your donation will go to the children that need it, rather than funding salaries or huge marketing budgets. Indeed, it's the opposite; the charity's founder has invested tens of thousands of her own money towards the orphanages. Check out their website....
