Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page!

We are a group of employee's that work in Travel stores & operations for WH Smith.

In September, we will be taking part in the Three Peaks Charity Challenge, climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon in 24 hours.

We are doing this challenge to raise money for the WH Smith charitable Trust and Save the Children, and hope to raise over £10,000 for these two fantastic causes.

The team includes:

Karl Stakes, Adrian Mansfield, Cheryl Wren, Martin, Dumbarton, Sarah Blackman, Sarah Austin, Jacqui Kelleher (reserve)

None of us have never attempted anything like this before and it will be a huge personal challenge for all of us. With lots of varying fitness levels between the group, training has already in started in earnest- and encouragement is needed!!

To give you some idea of the challenge that awaits us:

- Considered one of Britain’s toughest outdoor challenges, the National Three Peaks Challenge take in the dizzy heights of Ben Nevis (1,344m), Scafell Pike (978m) and Snowdon (1,085m)

- We will be trekking for around 18 hours during the challenge- including at night and will face varying weather conditions- including possibly snow!

- We will cover 28 miles of unpredictable and varying terrain. So over a full marathon, but with three massive hills!

- We will ascend a totol of 3,000m in a single day- almost as high as summiting Kilimanjaro!

Why the WHSmith Charitable Trust....?

The WH Smith Charitable trust has two main aims:

The trust supports local and national charities across the country & each year the trust makes grants to a wide range of groups ran
ging from schools and brownie or scout groups, to hospices, music groups, air ambulances, and bigger charities like Cancer Research UK and the Alzheimers Society.

A large proportion of the trusts grant funding goes towards projects to promote literacy, working in partnership with WHSmith PLC and the National Literacy. 30,000 children have taken part in the trusts literacy projects since 2010. Each year, the trust make donations to hundreds of schools across the UK to enable them to improve their library facilities & has also donated thousands of books and craft kits to hospitals across the UK.
