Home from Home Nursery School Worthing are proud to working in conjunction with uflourish Pregnancy & Family fairs to raise over £1000 to ensure local support groups for local families are continued.

Coastal West Sussex MIND wish to provide a service to help support those within the local area who are experiencing very low moods, feelings of isolation, those who are struggling with parenthood and the pressures of coping with postnatal depression.

Large numbers of children grow up with a parent (or parents) who has a mental health problem. Many of these parents will have a mild or short lived problem. But others will live with a parent who has a long term problem. Research has shown that parental mental health problems (particularly when a child is a baby or in their early years) can affect the bonds between parent and child. This bonding is important for the way that children develop and if there is a problem with it, it may then affect the child’s own health and well-being as they grow up. That is why supporting parents with young children to have good mental health is vital for both parents and children.

Post Natal Depression is a distressing condition that can affect a mother’s ability to care for her baby and herself. It is common affecting between 10 -15% of mothers. Most women will get better within 3-6 months without treatment but 1 in 4 will still be affected when the baby is 1 yrs old. Post Natal depression can spoil a mothers enjoyment of the new baby, put strain on the relationship with her partner and can affect the child’s long term development and behaviour even after the depression has ended.

We want to support these mothers and their partners to create a supportive and welcoming environment where they can receive the help they need.

We want to work in partnership with a range of health and social care family services within the local area to improve the mental health and well-being of parents with young children. Supporting parents prior to having a child, once their child is born and then until their child and or children reaches school age. We also wish to give support to their partners of anyone with a mental health problem if required.
