Story

I HAVE FINISHED! An incredible, mountainous 171kms completed in 42hours 35minutes continuous running! The UTMB is a gruelling, elite ultra-marathon of 100 miles/170kms that goes around the Mont Blanc massif (& back to Chamonix). It may take me up to 47 hours of continuous running. I will go up & down 10 peaks, through 3 countries, whilst pushing through 10,000 metres of altitude change. This is the equivalent of ascending & descending Mount Everest!

This is undoubtedly going to be the hardest ultra I have done (including the infamous Marathon des Sables). I had to complete 2x100 mile and 1x50 mile runs just to qualify for the entry, which tells you something!

I have chosen to fundraise for the Priaulx Premature Baby Foundation as our second daughter Holly was born 4 weeks premature in 2011. She arrived without much warning and cold. It was an agonising wait as she spent 24 hours in the Neonatal Critical Care Unit in a hot cot without much contact allowed. Luckily her lungs were developed and she had no major issues other than low body fat and difficulty regulating her temperature.

As we were in the NCCU you see all these other babies that are just so sick and fighting for their lives with every breath, and you have a glimpse of how different things could have so easily been for us.

In Guernsey, babies cannot always have the specialist treatment they need on the island and so have to travel to Southampton. Sometimes this splits a family up at a time when they really need to be together, and the PPBF are trying to raise enough funds to buy a property, to be known as The Burrow, next to the hospital that will, for years and years to come, guarantee families accommodation close to their child.

I find it very poignant that I will be running 100 miles which is about the same distance from Guernsey to Southampton - the same distance as those families in crisis.
